Cognitive Surplus


I think that in the video he said something important and is that we are great consumers, but we don´t produce anything. We like the internet and we spend hours In it, but doing what, in facebook, or in the mail, that we put something in the media but that is not going to be a change in the world, the people is not going to learn anything with that.

I´m a consumer, because I don´t share my knowledge in the media, I just take from it some of the information that other people put in there. But instead of putting the information in the media I´m giviging my knowledge to others, in this case in the social action that I do, or in my work. So I can said that right know I appreciate more, my social work.

Sixth day in social work

In my sixth day in social work, I prepare two activities for the kids, the first was make the flag of Guayaquil, because we are July, month of our city. I start the activity asking if they know what we are celebrating this month, they said that the birthday of the city. After the little introduction, we started tearing the sky blue paper, then we paste in the cardboard and finally we put a sherbet, and we finished our flag, we played with it a little and then we passed to our next activity.
I took a turtle so they can paint it, they painted it with crayons, I took in account that they need more help in that area, because they didn´t respect the limits of the draw. Another day that I let the painted free, they just made a pothook, and for their age (3 years), they supposed to make drawings and not just pothook. For that in my next day I´m going to work with this problem, I´m going to bring more things to practice their painting.

Fifth day of social work

In my fifth day in social work, I work in the pharmacy of the dispensary, because the kids of the school, didn´t have class.

I went to the pharmacy, and the patients came to buy their medicine, they asked how much they had to pay, before saying if they want the medicine or not. Some of them didn’t buy all the medicine; they said they buy some today and the other part the next day, or when the medicine finished.
The miss that take care of the pharmacy give them some chances or options to pay the medicine, she say to them which medicine is more important or how many they have to buy,. For the dispensary is more important the wealth of their patients that their own interest.

Fourth Day in social work




Today in the kindergarten we made two activities, one was handwork and the other to improve the fine motricity. First we made the handwork; I gave to them a toilet paper tube, we started to saw through it, we enjoyed, we started mentioning what we saw through it, they named their friends, teachers, the things in the class, their games, bags, etc.

Then we started, we made a mouse; we putted the ears, eyes and mouth. They liked it; they started to played with it. They putted funny names to their little friend. The next activity was to string different shapes in plastic strips. They were expert in that, Fergie that is under all, has an excellent motricity. This activity caught their attention, when they finished stringing the shape that I have to them, they asked for more.

We went out to play in a round, we sang a nice song, and the children enjoy it, the teacher was playing the tambourine, then they took their homework and bags, we went to the door to waited their parents, then they went to their houses.

Third Day in social work




Today in the school I made two activities that the teacher ask me to do, first I made lemonade with the children and then we work in the book. We made the lemonade because we wanted to work with the children what is to be a little independent, we wanted to teach that they can help also in home to their mom or dad, or the person that take care of them.


This activity was great; all the children help us to make the lemonade, which also helps us to teach how to work like a team; respecting the turn of the companion, respecting also the steps that we have to follow to do something. This activity call the attention of the children because is something different, is not the same activity of all the days, it was original and fun.
After doing the lemonade we drunk it, it was good. When we finished cleaning the class we started our new activity. This one was with the book, we summarized what we made before (lemonade), and the children have to paste in the book the steps we took to prepare the lemonade. That helps them to know the steps of the things, and practice motricity.

Second day in social work

This Wednesday I went to the kindergarten with some stuff to work. I took clamps and newspaper to work with their motricity. The teacher send me to other class with the children that have 3 years, so I started greeting the child, then we sang some songs, and then we started to work.

We started to play with clamps, open and close them, later they put the clamps to their friends, and I use the clamps because that helps the child to improve their motricity in their hands. I was surprised because in this group I have a girl that is little than the others but has a great motricity, also the teacher told me that she always get scare to strangers but with me she was ok, she didn’t cried or shout. But when another teacher enter in the class she started to cry, so maybe she need more affection or get know the others.
The next activity that I did was with the newspaper, they have to wrinkle it, then they have to ironing it with their hands, and then they have to rip it. When we finished the activity they throw the papers in the garbage.

When we finished the activities we started to sing again, and then we played in the class, with the kitchen, dolls, carpenter´s table and a coquette. When they finished to play we returned to the class with the other children, there I gave them a paper and crayons so they can make a drawing, again the little girl surprise me because she can do circles, and the others that are bigger can´t.
Then I take them with the others teachers to the door, and the children went to their home.

My first day in social work

I went to the school Las Carmelitas in downtown the last Wednesday, I went to help the doctor in the clinic, but after talking with the coordinator she decided that I can help them in the kindergarten, in Pre-Kinder and Kinder.

In the class they are 14 kids, nine boys and five girls, they have two teachers, one is the holder and the other is the assistant, the class has ornaments about what they are talking that are the colors, also they have books to work, games in the yard, that is little but they also have a games class, that have a kitchen, a place like a workshop, also small games as legos and cubes.
That day I help the teacher with the homework of the kids, putting them in their folder and making it (drawing), then I washed the hands of the kids (when they return from the break, after that the teacher introduced me, then I help the kids to paint the paper of red color, that is what they are learning.
The next Wednesday I have to bring some materials to work with the kids. Cause they are having problems with the motricity and the social part.
